The Lasting Power of Pigment

December 23 - February 21, 2012 – The Lotus Salon NY in Tribeca is pleased to present the work
of nationally recognized artist Vincent Romaniello.

The historical significance of pigment is literally brought to the surface in all of Romaniellofs 2D
and 3D works. The paintings (which are themselves in question as paintings) are raw, minimal,
highly textured abstractions. The surfaces are a series of gfurrowsh that rise and fall and cast
shadows that heighten the three dimensional effect. The artist created special rake-like tools and
developed his own new techniques for this body of work.

From an essay by Vittorio Colaizzi: (Romaniello)...ghas similarly created objects that are not
objects, objects that by insisting upon their proportions, dimensions, rhythms, and color, transport
the viewer to a here and now that, bereft of definitive iconography, is inexhaustibly mysterious.h

The first thing seen when entering the exhibit is an installation, created specifically for the Lotus
space, that features a wood plank shelf supporting 5 of Romaniellofs gFragmenth sculptures. They
have been described by visitors as resembling found antiquities from an undiscovered culture. An
hunting arrow pierces the wall above and seemingly releases a vein of yellow ochre pigment that
trails down to the objects.

The other installation, filling approximately 9x12 ft. in the larger space, is comprised of 23 oval-
shaped pieces  ranging in size from 8 to 14 inches and made of dry pigments, sand and charcoal.
These materials are embedded in plaster and sealed with a naturally replenishable resin.

This is the first time this work will be presented in a solo setting in New York City.

Vincent Romaniellofs work has been shown and collected nationally and internationally.
Past exhibits  include the Biennale Internazionale dellfArte Contemporanea, Florence, Italy;
Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; Roger Smith Gallery, NY, NY; AquaArt, Miami, FL;
Butters Gallery Ltd., Portland OR; Bentley Projects, Phoenix, AZ; Current Space, Baltimore, MD;
The Brucennial, NY, NY; The Museum of the University of Memphis, TN. Vincent was recently a
resident artist at chashama in NYC.
